- I am a beginner, can I join the class?
- Yes. At the North West Aikido Club there is no division between expert and novice and we all train together. Changing partner while training is encouraged so we all train with each other and more experienced practitioners can help beginners.
- I don't want to train yet, can I come and watch a class?
- Of course. Come, sit aside and watch the class. Feel free to ask questions of the teacher or talk to any members of the class.
- I am not fit. Should I get fit first?
- No. Come along to the class and you'll be training to your own capability. If you feel tired just say so and stop for a rest. You will get fit by training regularly.
- I have practiced a different style of Aikido before. Is yours different?
- To me Aikido is about harmonising with the opponent, not manipulating or interfering with him/her. I believe that the "end product" should be the same no matter what style one learns. One benefit of learning different styles is that you can learn to do the same things in a different way.
- What equipment do I need?
- Wear any comfortable clothing (preferably long trousers and long sleeves). When you are sure Aikido is for you and you'll keep training, then you can invest in a gi.
- Do I have to grade? Can I train and not grade?-
- Those who want to be graded should talk to their teacher to organise grading sessions. Those who just want to train without going through the grading system are very welcome to do so.
